Discussion:
How to insert dropdown menus in navigation bar?

I have some basic html and layout skills but am pretty ignorant of CSS and
HTML5, so I am using Blue Griffon with templates to help produce a
decent-looking website. I have not yet bought the manual but have made good
progress on my page. Specifically, I am using the "Dragonfly" template from
Mitchison designs as a basis for my site. Can anyone tell me what command
or menu item within Blue Griffon I can use to insert dropdown menus in my
primary page's navigation bar? My terminology may be wrong, but I am
thinking of the sort of menu that shows up when the user hovers over each
navigation bar item, showing a list of important links that one can go to
directly instead of going to the intermediate page where those links are
found. I am hoping there is an easy way within Blue Griffon to set this up
in a standards-compliant way.
Thanks
SR

Hi Steven,
I am using the "Dragonfly" template from Mitchison designs as a
basis for my site. Can anyone tell me what command or menu item
within Blue Griffon I can use to insert dropdown menus in my primary
page's navigation bar?
There is no command or menu to insert dropdown menus. You need to
insert the appropriate code yourself, probably best achieved by
specifying a list for the menu options and then styling the option
items as required.

There are some excellent code samples available at:
http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/
but its certainly best to have some understanding of the principles of
CSS to make best use of that site. (Come to that, you normally need a
good understanding of CSS to understand how to use and customise a
downloaded template.)

If you don't want to "hand code" your menus, then you can also google
for something like "drop down menu maker css" to find sites that offer
code generators for you to plug into your template.

Thank you; I do need a CSS tutorial and I will work on getting that before
I try to do anything meaningful with these files.
